Is there a type of basic makeup application class available?

I am 21 years old, and am starting to wear more make-up and I was wondering if there were basic make-up application classes in Northern California. Is there a type of basic makeup application class available?
I'm going to have to disagree with the counter idea if you are in Cali. You'll get a sales pitch to buy their products and the look won't necessarily be about your personal best, it'll be about what the sales person needs to sale or what look they have experience in doing. Look for a local makeup artist and have them do a one on one ';lesson'; for you. They aren't brand specific and they have the knowledge and training to customize your makeup to you personally without just going with their ';old standby'; look. If you are going to do it, you might as well learn from a pro and look the best you can instead of wasting money on a counter girls opinion. A good 80-90 percent of counter workers are not artists and have had no artistry training. They are shown how to apply one look to sell certain products and that's it. There are a few good ones out there but you hear about them because they are true artists not about selling you the latest color. If you really don't like the idea of going with a pro and having a private lesson then find a freestanding store not a counter in a department store. I can't recommend MAC because they are all about sales but Northern california usually has several boutique brands in free standing stores (i'm not talking stores like Sephora, sephora girls are not artists at all. An example would be the benefit store or stila stores). Freestanding stores tend to hire actual artists or require that their girls pass a makeup test prior to being hired where counter girls in larger department stores are just hired for sales skills not for makeup skills. Is there a type of basic makeup application class available?
IDK... make-up counters at the mall are good for showing you like the previous person said BUT unless you have money for very expensive make-up its kind of rude to take up their time.

Do you have a cousin, older sister, or a friend who can help? OR maybe go to a beauty school and have one of the students teach you proper techniques.
IDK about Classes in Cali but you can go to a counter at the mall (Clinique, MAC, Estee Lauder) and they will show you how for free and they will even match you up with colors that will look good with your hair, skin and eye color. Hope this helps!
